Indeed, the British police would like to check whether the lady carrying a new life might not have had one too many… Over and above individual responsibilities when it comes to alcohol consumption, the real question here is, should a woman, on the pretext of public health, lose her most fundamental rights when she has a new life growing inside her? We are already hearing rumblings here and there among the nations of the old continent about alarming fertility rate statistics; the idea of “policing” pregnant women may turn out to be even more effective than the pill or any other contraceptive.
