Chicken Pepsi au Vin: Ancient Fast-Food Restaurant Discovered in Pompei

Fast-food joint, kebab shop, greasy spoon, call it what you like… The Thermopilum was the ancestor of today’s cheap and cheerful eatery. In an excellent state of preservation, this “thermopilum” served chicken, duck, wine, hot drinks… and there’s a whole environment still intact, swiftly sealed off, that researchers have uncovered, along with a tragic discovery – an old man dispatched by the first toxic vapours and another, perhaps starving, probably a petty thief, killed “with a pot lid in his hand”.
