In a country where spreading your foie gras is considered a supreme heresy, what does opinion say about wine packaged American-style in a soda can? A study requested by the Master Vintners of Saint Tropez suggests that 72% of French people would be prepared to drink canned wine. The main arguments in favour are a smaller quantity than an ordinary bottle, ease of transportation, and recyclable packaging, those in favour of wine in aluminium packaging rose to 85% among 18–24-year-olds. This new form of bottling, which is already widespread in Anglo-Saxon countries, even turned up a few days ago at Wine Paris – Vinexpo, France’s biggest wine trade fair.
