Duty Free: Half a Million Dollars for a Japanese Whisky

What could better than a “tax-free” place to buy a rare 55-year-old Japanese whisky. An auction in a “Duty Free” shop in Istanbul airport, in Turkey, concluded with a bid of $559,200 for a bottle of Yamazaki 55 from an anonymous Chinese buyer. An absolute bargain, if you take into account the fact that a bottle just like it was sold online by a retailer for almost a million dollars.
