This is perhaps not the world famous application that offers virtual reality entertainment content, but it is roughly the same kind of equipment. In order to relieve winter stresses on dairy cows, virtual reality goggles have been adapted to offer visions of “green pastures” to the most anxious bovines. The cows benefiting from this bucolic and idyllic scenery produce more milk and seem happier.
The concept of reducing farm animals’ stress is not new, but it usually requires very deep pockets, whereas virtual reality equipment is financially affordable these days. The device has been developed by researchers from the Russian Ministry of Agriculture in Moscow and has already been tested by a Turkish farmer, who has confirmed the effectiveness of the equipment on his cows’ productivity.
