Milk from Havana

It was thought that a “warming” of relations when Obama and Castro happened to meet at Nelson Mandela’s funeral in 2013 would finally begin an official thaw in the “impossible” relationship that had reigned between the two countries for more than half a century. Although some improvement can be seen in certain areas, the embargo the US has brought to bear on imports to Cuba is still in place. Regarding milk, considered an essential foodstuff (especially for infants), the situation has since greatly deteriorated; the country, which does not produce enough milk itself, can no longer guarantee the usual ration allocated to children.
