Maca Coffee: A Hot Drink Recipe

A new “naughty” trend, made from black coffee and maca powder, and sometimes known on the other side of the pond as “Sex Coffee”; people also add dark chocolate, honey, coconut milk, and cinnamon. “Effects” reported to be “surprising”, along with a pleasing taste, are making this drink the latest accompaniment to people’s nocturnal romantic trysts. In case you need a reminder, the “maca” plant, “the Peruvian ginseng”, from South America, has been grown since ancient times in the Central Andes. Having been reduced to a few hectares in the 1980s, we have Katia Humala-Tasso and Pierre-Olivier Combelles, biologists from the French Institute for Andean Studies, to thank for the experimental reintroduction of maca growing in Bolivia.
