A Fresh Start for “Feni” the Ancestral Indian Liquor

This ancestral “firewater”, made from cashew apples, had fallen out of favour, as it was considered “too strong” and perhaps a tad “has-been”; young Indians in the Goa region preferred more “modern” spirits.

A local initiative producing the famous “feni” using very artisanal methods is already exporting its limited editions across the world. These new “feni moonshiners” are also trying to attract a “cosmopolitan and adventurous” Indian clientele for this traditional drink, which has long been customary fare at all important social occasions.
